Parents' Page

Welcome parent,

There are so many things that happen during your child's day away from home. While I can never keep up with every single incident that occurs, I will try my best to ensure that a significant part of his/her daily activities are documented.

All of the information provided below can be found in various sections or parts of the Small Wonders blog, however, I have provided some quick links (below).

Please start by familiarizing yourself with some of our policies & procedures below.

Things you should know:
Hours
My hours are 7 am to 5 pm. I volunteer some evenings...While I am open to pick ups a bit after 5,please know that I sometimes make appointments in the evenings. If you are late consistently, I will have to charge $1/minute.

Nature-based
We are a nature-based program. There is an element of risk-taking, and exploration (beyond our home). Your child(ren) will get dirty as they spend time outside in the elements. If your child has allergies or any other illness please document all information that could make a difference in our activities.

Follow the Small Wonders blog -We blog about our days and activities. Please follow the Small Wonders blog....

Daycare menu - You will find 4 menus. Since we will follow a rotation system - I will note which menu we are using on the daily report (ie. menu 1, 2 , 3 or 4).

Incoming Food - Please do not send food with your (besides the necessities for babies), or unless agreed upon. For birthdays, every child gets a simple celebration and all treats are made by the kids.If you would like to send treats, please let me know in advance.

Allergies - *Please Note - If you or your family members have pets: My daughter and I are asthmatic. We have serious cat and dog dander allergies. It would be greatly appreciated if your child comes to daycare with no dander on his/her clothes, especially when I have to carry the child and it transfers to my clothes etc.

Curtains drawn - I have an open door policy, which means that you can stop in to see your child if you would like.  If the curtains are drawn, it means it`s nap / resting time. Please do not ever ring the doorbell as it excites the kids, and can disturb our napping etc.

Small Wonders Daily Report - Every evening (that your child is here) you will find their reports on the blog. The reports will be uploaded in the evenings. You will be able to access a secure password protected page where you will find his/her daily reports, and a link to your child's private photo gallery.
Your password is and will always be private. Should you choose to share it with anyone else, Small Wonders will not be held responsible.
Each child's reports will remain on the Reports page for 2 weeks, at which time they will be deleted.

Photos -I take photos of the kids doing various activities. Photos that are used for blogging will always protect your child's privacy by either blurring the face, or cutting it off.

Drop off & Pick up Procedure(s)- It is very hard to contain the little ones as they get super-excited when someone comes to the door. Not only does it excite the children, but for safety reasons they need to remain upstairs. When you come to the door it's not always easy to get the kids in order before I run down to front door, or before an older child runs down ahead of me.

AM- In the AM, please come in (announce arrival) + undress your child + fill out the report..I will come down to get any child under 3, after he/she is undressed and you reassure him/her that you will be back.
Once I get the child, please fill out the report quietly and leave.

PM - Please come in (announce your arrival). I will bring your child downstairs...I don't want to seem rude or distracted, so I will say that going forward goodbyes will be brief.
Please don't forget to sign your child out. Any information from the day (unless extremely urgent) will be in your child's report in the evening (on blog).

Toys from home - We are a no TV home. No TV or media for the kids is my policy. At this time we don`t do movie Fridays, because I don`t think it`s needed. Please do not send the kids with toys or media-like entertainment. Your child can bring a blanket or a cuddle toy for napping/resting only!

Parking - I try to get parents in and out to avoid the inconvenience of waiting (and being late) at drop-off and pick up. If there is someone parked in my driveway, Please do not park in my neighbor`s driveway.

Things you should/need to do:

Stay updated with the Calendar -The Small Wonders  calendar is always being updated. Do keep up with your child's activities by checking out what they are going to be doing...Small Wonders' holidays are also listed there.
Daily incoming report(s). These reports are important! Please note anything that could possibly affect your child's day in the report. Sometimes, especially if there are other distractions, I might miss your verbal account of what kind of night your child had, boo boos, or illnesses etc. Please  take the time to do this, because anything that helps me help your child during the day can make a big difference in his/her care.

Some things that need to be noted in the report are:
  • sleepless night
  • runny nose or cough
  • if you've given any medication before child arrived here
  • scratches, cuts or other ailments
  • vaccinations
  • diarrhea or constipation
  • ...tummy aches etc
  • lack of appetite
  • etc
This info is to help your child, and take better care of his needs.

Label - Please label each item that belongs to your child.

Illness policy - When you signed the contract you agreed to our illness policy...All ill children must stay at home, and serious, contagious illnesses must be reported so that we can warn/prepare other parents.

Update me - Please always remember to keep me informed of changes to health and contact information.

Contacting me in the evenings or Weekends - While you will receive some updates later than 7:30 pm  in the evenings, please know that I try to shut-off & shutdown all media after daycare reports are completed, so that I can have some family time. If something is really important please call me at 403-252-5052 ...DO NOT email or text me after 6:00 pm, as I will receive your message the next morning. Please only call if there's an emergency.
